Minds & memory
Built for how real brains actually work.
DumpDraft is designed first for people for whom “write it up later” carries a real cost — because of attention, executive function, or memory. The core promise, effortless and instant capture, is exactly what helps when holding a thought is the hard part. This page explains who that includes and how the app is built to help.
Please read: DumpDraft is a supportive, everyday tool for capturing and remembering — not a medical device, treatment, or therapy. It does not diagnose, treat, slow, or prevent any condition. Nothing here is medical advice. If you're supporting someone with a health condition, work with their care team on what fits them.
The principles we design against
These aren't marketing lines — they're the rules the app is actually built from. When a design decision is unclear, we favor the principle.
Effortless capture
One tap from anywhere, opening straight to the composer. Capture is never gated behind sign-in, setup, or choosing where a note goes.
Fewer decisions
Strong, safe defaults and few visible choices. Power features stay tucked away until you want them. Every extra button is a small tax.
Externalize memory
Out of sight is out of mind, so what you captured stays visible. The app remembers, so you don't have to.
Structure is optional
Tags and modes are helpful offers, never obligations. The write-up is worth it even with zero tags.
Voice-friendly
Speaking matches how thoughts arrive. Voice-to-text is a primary, always-visible action, not a buried feature.
Forgiving
Undo everything. Nothing is lost offline or signed out. No dead ends.
No shame, no streaks
Guilt and streak mechanics backfire. Any capture is celebrated, gently. The tone is kind and literal.
Calm & predictable
Stable layout, strong contrast, large tap targets, adjustable text. Controls stay where they were; nothing jumps.
Neurodivergent profiles
Every brain is different, and these overlap — but here's how DumpDraft tends to help across common neurodivergent experiences.
ADHD
Fast thoughts, easy distraction, and a working memory that drops things mid-sentence. DumpDraft lets you offload a thought the instant it appears, before it's gone — no app-switching, no filing, no “I'll remember it.” The dreaded write-up becomes a button, so task-initiation and blank-page paralysis don't get a chance to win. And there are no streaks to “break,” because guilt is not a feature.
Autism
Predictability matters. The layout stays put, labels are literal rather than clever, and nothing reflows unexpectedly under you. You choose your own vocabulary through tags, control the sensory feel, and are never forced through a social or open-ended prompt. What you capture is exactly what you get back.
Executive-function differences
Planning, sequencing, and starting big tasks are the hard parts — and they show up with ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety, and more. DumpDraft removes the sequencing entirely: you capture in any order, at any time, and the app does the organizing at the end. A large task (“write the report”) becomes a series of tiny, frictionless ones (“send yourself a text”).
Dyslexia & dysgraphia
When writing and reading are effortful, voice-to-text lets you capture by speaking, and the app assembles the finished prose for you. Adjustable text size and high-contrast, uncluttered screens make what's on screen easier to read.
Anxiety & depression
Low energy, low motivation, and a loud inner critic make “start the write-up” feel impossible. Kind microcopy, zero guilt mechanics, and a first step as small as one sentence lower the bar to almost nothing. Nothing here scolds you for the days you didn't capture.
Memory & cognitive conditions
The same “externalize your memory, keep it visible, make capture effortless” design that helps neurodivergent people also supports people living with memory and cognitive changes — and the people who care for them.
DumpDraft is a supportive aid here: a low-pressure way to capture moments, keep a shared record, and build life-story keepsakes. It is not a treatment and won't slow a condition. Use it alongside — never instead of — professional care.
Alzheimer's disease & dementia
In earlier stages, an external, always-visible record can ease some of the daily weight of remembering — what happened today, who visited, what was said. Capture is deliberately simple (open, speak or type, done), with no complicated filing to learn or maintain. Voice input helps when typing is tiring or words are hard to spell.
DumpDraft is also well suited to reminiscence and life-story work: families and care partners can capture memories, quotes, photos, and small daily moments, then turn them into a warm Memory Book keepsake to revisit together. Shared capture means the record doesn't depend on one person's recall.
DumpDraft does not provide reminders that a person must rely on for medication or safety, and is not a substitute for clinical memory aids or supervision. For those needs, follow the guidance of a care team.
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI)
When you notice more slips than before but still manage day to day, a frictionless capture habit can help you hold onto details and appointments, and keep a record you and your clinician can look back on. Because structure is optional, there's no system to keep up with — you just jot.
Brain injury & concussion (TBI)
Recovery often comes with fatigue, word-finding trouble, and a fragile working memory. DumpDraft keeps each interaction tiny and low-effort, supports voice when reading or typing tires you, and holds everything in one calm, visible place so nothing depends on you remembering to remember.
Aphasia & word-finding difficulty
Capture doesn't have to be polished. A few words, a voice note, or a photo is enough to hold a moment — and the write-up step can help shape fragments into fuller sentences when you're ready.
Brain fog — long COVID, ME/CFS, chemotherapy, perimenopause
On foggy, low-energy days, the cost of “I'll write it up later” is highest and the follow-through is lowest. A single-tap dump that asks nothing of you — no formatting, no decisions — meets you where you are, and the app does the organizing when your energy is spent.
For caregivers & families
You don't have to have any of the above to benefit — many people use DumpDraft on behalf of someone they support.
- Keep a shared daily record. Capture appointments, moods, visitors, and moments across the day; generate a clean summary to share with family or a care team.
- Build a life-story keepsake. Use the Memory Book mode to collect quotes, photos, and stories into something warm to revisit together.
- Lower the load. Because capture is so light, it fits into a busy caregiving day instead of becoming one more thing to manage.
A note on privacy: caregiving notes can be sensitive. By default everything stays on your device and is never uploaded. See Privacy & your data for how that works and how optional encrypted backup keeps a protected copy.
Comfort & sensory settings
You can tune the app to feel calmer and easier to use. In Setup → Display & comfort:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Text size | Normal, Large, or Largest — everything scales together |
| Reduced motion | Calms animations and transitions (also follows your device setting) |
| Dark mode | Follows your device's light/dark preference automatically |
| Voice capture | An always-visible mic button for speaking instead of typing |
| Large tap targets | Buttons are sized for easy, reliable tapping (at least 44px) |
The whole app is built for strong contrast, stable layout, and literal, jargon-free labels — so it stays legible and predictable however you use it.
